چکیده
The new spaceborne very high resolution (VHR) SAR sensors onboard the TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMED satellites have a spatial resolution of up to 1 meter. In VHR SAR data, features from individual urban structures, like buildings, can be identified in their characteristic settings in urban settlement patterns. In the context of situation assessment as initial reaction to man made or natural crisis events, information extraction methodologies relying on data which can be derived from operational civilian spaceborne sensors are of special importance. In this paper, we present a novel 3D reconstruction methodology using hybrid VHR optical and detected SAR imagery that is able to estimate the height of a generic man made structure from a single power VHR SAR image. The proposed approach is based on the combined application of a radar simulator and a matching procedure, which evaluates the match between the actual SAR scene and the simulations of an object with different heights. The estimated height corresponds to the height of the object, whose simulation matches best with the actual scene. The efficiency and the generic aspect of the proposed method, is demonstrated for the height estimation of the pyramids in Giza, Egypt from VHR TerraSAR-X data.

Due to the very high resolution of state-of-the-art SAR sensors, both airborne (e.g. ESAR, PAMIR, MEMPHIS) and space borne (e.g. TerraSAR-X, CosmoSkyMed), new application scenarios arise especially in urban scenes. The focus of this paper is on bridges since they play a key role in urban infrastructure. Their condition has to be monitored and evaluated in particular in the case of natural hazar...
متن کاملIntroducing An Efficient Set of High Spatial Resolution Images of Urban Areas to Evaluate Building Detection Algorithms
The present work aims to introduce an efficient set of high spatial resolution (HSR) images in order to more fairly evaluate building detection algorithms. The introduced images are chosen from two recent HSR sensors (QuickBird and GeoEye-1) and based on several challenges of urban areas encountered in building detection such as diversity in building density, building dissociation, building sha...

متن کاملSegmentation Improvement of High Resolution Remote Sensing Images based on superpixels using Edge-based SLIC algorithm (E-SLIC)
The segmentation of high resolution remote sensing images is one of the most important analyses that play a significant role in the maximal and exact extraction of information. There are different types of segmentation methods among which using superpixels is one of the most important ones. Several methods have been proposed for extracting superpixels. Among the most successful ones, we can r...
